Every year Cambridge City Council runs a 'Switch Off Week' to mark National Energy Saving Week organised by the Energy Saving Trust. Energy Saving Week is designed to promote energy saving action among householders, businesses and organisations. The incentive for businesses to get involved is that it will help raise staff awareness about how they can reduce their energy use in the workplace and hence save money whilst cutting emissions.
Last year several Cambridgeshire organisations took part in a 'Switch Off Week' and on average these organisations reduced their electricity consumption between 5-25%. Participants monitor their electricity meters over a 3 week period (12th – 30th Oct) and during Switch Off Week undertake a series of staff awareness activities to minimise electricity wasted. This serves as an annual reminder of good practice to try and maintain throughout the year.
